Albums of my life: 1988

This is the fifth part of my Albums of my life series and this time we are in 1988.

In this series I am ranking albums that are most important to me for each year since I was born. I won't rank them by how good I think they are and neither will I include albums that I never really listened too even though they might be excellent.

As always, we'll start with honourable mentions. These are albums I listened to at least 2 times since 2007 (the year I started scrobbling) and which I really like.

Honourable Mentions

Now on to my list. And this time I only found 3 albums I consider very important to me, starting with...

3. Tom Waits - Big Time

I think this is the first live album in my list. It was one of my entrypoints into the wonderful world of Tom Waits.

It ignited my love.

2. Slayer - South of Heaven

Somehow I can't believe that according to Last.fm the first time I listened to this album was only in 2016? What?

Anyways, it grew to be one of my very favourite Slayer albums.

Before you see the light, you must die, I guess.

1. Die Ärzte - Das ist nicht die ganze Wahrheit...

Album cover of Die Ärzte - Das ist nicht die ganze Wahrheit...

This album is a piece of art. The lyrics are top notch. The tunes are catchy.

I bought Das ist nicht die ganze Wahrheit... on CD and I still spin it occasionally, because it features some of the best Die Ärzte songs ever.

Ohne Dich, Westerland, Blumen, Ausserirdische, man that's great stuff. As many things from the 80s, not all songs have aged well, though. Elke for example was always a fan favourite, but for reasons they don't play this song live any longer.

If you wanna do a Die Ärzte deep dive, maybe start here (and get a German dictionary).
