Albums of my life: 1989
This is the fifth part of my Albums of my life series and this time we are in 1989.
In this series I am ranking albums that are most important to me for each year since I was born. I won't rank them by how good I think they are and neither will I include albums that I never really listened too even though they might be excellent.
As always, we'll start with honourable mentions. These are albums I listened to at least 2 times since 2007 (the year I started scrobbling) and which I really like.
Honourable Mentions
- Exodus - Fabulous Disaster it's one of their best.
- Phil Collins - ...But Seriously but seriously, I like Phil Collins.
2. Pixies - Doolittle

I didn't really have Pixies on my radar until the mid 2000s, but then I was hooked. Doolittle features some of my favourite Pixies songs like Gouge Away, Debaser and Here Comes Your Man. Although my very favourite song is still Cecilia Ann, Doolittle will always be my goto Pixies album.
1. Queen - The Miracle

This album.
I basically got into this album because of the videos. And they were epic. I think the scene of that train breaking through that wall in the video of Breakthrough was used as intro to a music show on Austrian television back then, but I am not entirely sure. This was when I was around 7 years old so who knows for sure.
Anyways, I can remember seeing the video of The Invisible Man on television, it must have been on that iconic shows like Wurlitzer or X-Large and it was my favourite music video for a very long time, but see for yourself.
And then there was the video to the song The Miracle where young boys performed as Queen on stage and I was so jealous AND I was convinced that they should have casted me instead. I still think so! Here is the video

Now my first full listen of the entire album was much later in the early 2000s when I finally had enough money to buy the Queen CDs. And boy was I disappointed. I was so familiar with the singles - I Want It All, Breakthrough, The Invisible Man, The Miracle - I was really disappointed with the other songs. It took me a while to really get into the full album, which is actually a statement that is valid for most Queen albums. For example I didn't like Queen II at all when I bought it, and now it's my favourite.
Some years ago they released a remastered deluxe verison of The Miracle which features alternative takes, outtakes and basically the band talking during the recordings. This version re-ignited my love for this miraculous album.
