Albums of my life: 1990
So 1990. I remember new year's eve of '89 and how excited I was that we're hitting '90. Side note: for young Thomas, the years from 1990 to 2000 seemed to last about 50 years. Anyway, since I became more aware of music in the 90s, you could say that I am kind of a kid of the 90s, even though I think the 2000s had a greater influence on me. And I skipped all that Grunge stuff.
But I am drifting off, so let's continue with...
Honourable Mentions
- Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss - killer album, arguably Slayer's best. But to say it is really important to me... nah. But still a freakin' banger.
- Megadeth - Rust in Peace - Great album, just not important for me.
6. Anthrax - Persistence of Time

Why doesn't this album fall under the same category as Seasons and Rust (Seasons and Rust would be a great name for an album)?
Simple answer: I developed a strong connection with Anthrax. Because they are totally awesome and 100% underrated. I could live in a world without Seasons and Rust, but don't take away my Persistence of Time.
Also In My World is certainly the first Anthrax song I ever heard, because it was on Married With Children. You know, the "it came out of the fridge... why is it hot?" thing. Watch it here: Link to Youtube
Killer killer album!
5. Beasts of Bourbon - Black Milk

I didn't listen to this album in a very long time and I almost forgot about it. But during my research for this blog I discovered it again and the memories it brought back again justify including it in my list.
You should give it a spin. Or don't, but it's your loss.
4. AC/DC - The Razors Edge

There are 3 songs on this album which I adore.
There's Thunderstruck, of course.
But then there's also Moneytalks and come on, come on, lovin' for the money come on, come on, listen to the money talk.
And then there's the title track... I don't know, that's just my AC/DC album overall.
3. EAV - Neppomuk's Rache

If you read my previous blog entries, you know that Erste Allgemeine Verunsicherung or in short EAV was very important for young Thomas. Still is actually. And of all their albums, this one migh be my favourite. Again, EAV are merciless here in the most catchy and ridiculous way.
On Wo ist der Kaiser? they undig emporer Franz Josef to save music, on Ding Dong a guy is shit out of luck and hangs himself in the end (of course all kids sang along because it's catchy AF and we didn't really understand it), there is a song about farts (Einer geht um die Welt) and there is of course Samurai, a song about sex tourism in Thailand. Again, we kids back then knew all the lyircs and happily sang along when "Mister Maier" realised that he had brought crabs home with him from his holiday in Pattaya.
2. Element of Crime - Crime Pays

This is a live album by Element of Crime and pretty much wraps up their early phase, when they still sang in English. I believe they switched to German from that album onwards.
This album transports a certain live feeling like no other. You feel like you are standing in small bar in Berlin, it's hot and steamy and you are a bit drunk, only by listening to it.
The music is quite dark. I discovered this album when I was borderline depressive - something I realised only recently.
1. Judas Priest - Painkiller

Let's not be ridiculous, you knew that this would be my number one.
This album is the definition of "all killer no filler". All the songs on this album are the best song on this album.
A friend of mine once told me that for the longest time he thought that this was a best-of album. Can't argue with that.
