Albums of my life: 1991
This will get weird. Well, just a little weird at least. In 1991 I was well aware of the world and music television. No, not MTV, because there was no way I could watch that anywhere. But music IN television. In Austria all we had was "Die großen 10", "X-Large" and "Wurlitzer". The first one was a chart show, the second one something for the kids and the last one something for everybody. What they had in common: well, they all played Queen at one point.
Honourable mentions
- Metallica - Metallica - or the black album. The album that splits the fanbase into "first 4 elitists" and people with an open mind. Shots fired, sheesh. Anyways, I like this album a lot, but it's not really important to me.
4. Motörhead - 1916

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of this album is
R
A
M
O
N
E
S
RAMONES!!!
Then Going to Brazil and The One to Sing the Blues. There's also No Voices in the Sky which I adore. And of course the rather unusual 1916.
Great stuff.
3. Queen - Innuendo

Oh man this album. Innuendo is of course the final Queen studio album to be released while Freddie was still alive. The songs on it are incredible although there are some that I don't like at all, like Delilah or Ride the Wild Wind. But then there's Innuendo, The Show Must Go On, Headlong and the one I can't listen to without shedding a tear: These Are the Days of Our Lives.
And then there are these iconic black and white videos featuring the late Freddie Mercury in heavy makeup to hide the marks of his sickness.
"When I look and I find I still love you.
I still love you."
2. The KLF - The White Room

My cousins had this CD and my brother and I used to borrow it all the time and blast it at full volume. I still listen to it on a regular basis and it hasn't lost its magic. I absolutely adore the album cover too.
Now I didn't really understand what was going on musically, it was just so wild. 3 A.M. Eternal, What Time Is Love and of course the Last Train To Trancentral are top hits. But my favourite is actually the more mellow Build a Fire with that incredible guitar.
Goosebumps.
1. Queen - Greatest Hits II

A compilation in my list and this is probably the most important one for me. Because this was the first Queen CD I had (technically it was my brother's but duh), and I listened to it so many times I couldn't possibly count.
The album covers a time span of 10 years and 5 albums, the phase when they were this huge stadium band. It's incredibly how many hits they had during this time. Back in the 90s, I was convinced that Queen was the best band in the world. I actually believed that this was a global common understanding.
Anyhow, that's my list of 1991, but the show must go on.
